Malay Special Programme in ZHSS
Background
MSP is one of the Ministry of Education’s 3rd language programme. It used to be a Programme that is offered only to the top 30% of the PSLE cohort but has been expanded to anyone with the interest and inclination to do so beginning year 2006. This programme is offered to non-Malay students as a third language. Zhonghua Secondary School is the centre for schools in the South Zone.
A student who passes M(SP) at the GCE O-Level Examination and who qualifies for admission to a JC/MI will be given a concession of two points in his application to the JC/MI of his/her choice. A student who offers M(SP) in the GCE O-Level Examination will be allowed to use the M(SP) grade in lieu of a Humanities subject grade for admission to the JC/MI.
Objectives
of the Programme
At the end of the 4 years programme, students will be able to:
· Be comfortably conversant in Malay language,
· Communicate clearly in various situations and different target audience, in both oral and written form,
· Understand the Malay culture and traditions,
· Acquire the linguistic skills in listening, speaking, reading and writing.
Eligibility Students are eligible to offer MSP if they:
• Have not offered Malay Language or Higher Malay Language at PSLE
• Are offering a Mother Tongue Language which is not Malay Language or Higher Malay Language in secondary school
Details
MSP Lesson is held once a week, 3 hours per lesson in the afternoon. The programme will prepare students for the MSP examination at GCE ‘O’ Level.
